Eleven years strong! Can you believe it? On June 13th, 2024, DesignR Studio will celebrate a remarkable eleven-year journey. It’s been quite a ride – a rollercoaster of challenges, triumphs, and moments that will forever be etched in my memory. Looking back at this milestone, it’s clear that the past decade has forged DesignR Studio into the adaptable and thriving design hub it is today.

Let’s be honest, surviving the wild ride of the past few years wasn’t easy. When COVID-19 hit, many businesses sadly had to shut their doors. But DesignR Studio? We persevered. The pandemic was a brutal test, especially for a solopreneur like myself, juggling a million hats – graphic design, marketing, admin, finance, IT, you name it! But hey, we got through it, fueled by sheer determination and a healthy dose of adaptability.

Speaking of adapting, late 2022 brought a whole new kind of joy to DesignR Studio – a new member joined our family! (Cue the happy tears!) This incredible arrival meant the 10-year anniversary celebration in June 2023 became a quiet affair. But amidst the joys (and demands!) of parenthood, it highlighted an important shift. Learning to let go and adapt became the name of the game, reflecting the ever-changing nature of life and business. Balancing the demands of being a new parent while steering the studio through uncharted waters was no small feat. But hey, that’s the beauty (and sometimes the chaos) of running a solo business – it allows for flexibility and embraces the unexpected.

Of course, there were bumps along the road. Mistakes were made, lessons were learned. But the key to longevity, I’ve discovered, is to focus on what you do best and avoid spreading yourself too thin. Building strong relationships and collaborating with the right people has become a cornerstone of my business strategy. These connections, nurtured over the years with amazing clients and fellow freelancers, have proven invaluable.

Let’s face it, juggling work, parenting, and life in general is a constant act of balancing precarious plates. It’s even trickier now that I’m working part-time around my son’s schedule. But somehow, this crazy balance has become the secret sauce of DesignR Studio’s success. The freelance life, with its inevitable peaks and valleys in income, demands a steady hand and a willingness to adapt. Yet, despite the uncertainty, my dedication to exceeding client expectations has never wavered.

While DesignR Studio may be a solo act (hats off to Rachel!), I wouldn’t be here without the incredible support system that has carried me along the way. A massive thank you to all my clients and fellow local businesses – your support has been instrumental in reaching this milestone.
